Selsey's 57
The Selsey 57 project 2011 was a Joint Community Project between Arts Dream Selsey, The Selsey U3A The Selsey Society, and other local individuals. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The aim of the project was to gather information about the men from Selsey who fought in the Great War, especially the 57 men listed on the War Memorial outside St. Peter's Church in Selsey, West Sussex.
There are four more men linked with Selsey who died during the war but are not on the memorial, these were also researched. The result of the project was the Selsey 57 website.
There were a range of complimentary local activities to include school workshops, a four day Exhibition of the research findings, a teaching pack of lessons based on WW1, and community talks and presentations. Information on all these is included on the site.
The site includes:
• Historical documents, case studies, media articles personal letters, technical reports, images, video and sounds files, and primary resource information from descendants
• A 3D interactive Google map of the village of Selsey in 1914-1918, identifying the names and streets of the fallen and returned.
• The development of an on- line curriculum resource in the form of teaching materials for educational purposes
